Lindsay's Engagement Session

One of my favorite clients from Vintage Sky Salon is getting married in July at the Ballroom At Church Street. For her recent engagement session we did a trial hair and make up run. Lindsay wanted to emulate Carrie Underwood, all dolled up. The pictures where taken by Damon at his home studio and on location on Orange Ave. They were thrilled with the way everything came out.

It's That Time Of Year Again

It's that time of year again ready to get out and put your best face forward. Holiday season is fast approaching us and I know I want to look my absolute best If you are thinking that you are all thumbs and can't do your own hair and make-up think again. First pick a few inspiring photos from a favorite fashion house magazine. I like Elle , Glamour and Marie Claire . Then gather up the essentials like Velcro rollers, a big round brush, some hair spray and smoothing serum. I prefer Paul Mitchell's Skinny because it works best for thick hair. Practice makes perfect. Take large sections and spray with light hold spray then wrap around the rollers and secure with a bobby pin if necessary. While the hair is setting try experimenting with some make-up that you might not normally use. Purple is definitely in the spotlight this season and you'll find it goes with everything. I like Urban Decay for fun flirty colors. Don't worry if you think it's too bold. Night time

Bridal Makeup

Your bridal makeup should enhance your natural beauty. You want to look flawless, clean and dewy on the day of your nuptials. Personally I don’t prefer the look of airbrush for bridal. It tends to be a little matte and dull. But still it is the bride’s choice. Makeup Artist Amanda Nieves recommends Illumina Minerals . A natural mineral line that she created herself. Makeup artist palettes for the bride should be neutral colors such are creams, pinks, violets, plums and browns and a shimmer of gold or peach in the right places highlights the brides features.

Think outside the Bun

NYC Fashion week is the best place to find modern and edgy hairstyles on the runway. This model is from the Reverie by Melissa show. Classic hairdressing is making a comeback back particularly in bridal. I love that the elegant bun hair style was taken to the extreme. Don't think that you can't pull off a look just because you have never worn your hair that way before. It could turn out to compliment every aspect of your personality. To achieve this look simply pull hair back in a tight high side ponytail, tease hair spray with light hold spray like Paul Mitchell Working Spray and wrap hair around the elastic and secure with pins as you go.

Celebrity Weddings

Celebrity weddings are a great inspiration. Usually ahead of the trend most celebrity brides keep it simple. I absolutely loved Carrie Underwood's hair on the cover of People (www.people.com). This neat tousled up style can be transformed later for the reception into a sexy flow of curls. To achieve her style wrap large section's of hair around a medium barrel curling iron, spray using a light hold hairspray like Aquage's finishing spray and secure with a few bobby pins.

Summer Glow

Who doesn't love Kim Kardashian ? Well her gorgeous looks are a blessing but makeup helps! She has an army of people to keep her looking beautiful and although not a recent bride she is definitely a trendsetter among celebrities. Her incredible makeup artist Troy Jensen uses bronzers and gloss for a fresh summer glow. I recommend Trish Mcevoy bronzer or my favorite is Benefit 10 for the perfect beach glow. She also uses Stephen Moleski Eyelashes which are a must for any bride.

Bridal Hair Accessories

Even though when I've already been a bride I still love to look at the fashions and how amazing some of the headpieces are. The most fantastic new looks can be found at Jennifer Behr . You can check out her website for ordering. She is a favorite among the celebrities and has a collection that is for the bride who wants something a little more extraordinary. This sample is of one of her pieces that can be used in place of a veil.

What's your wedding Style?

Are you beach casual, modern, romantic, classic, glamorous or maybe a bohemian bride? Whatever your style try out a few things before you settle on one by scouring the magazines and practice a few on yourself at home. Make sure to create looks that are cohesive. Talk to your friends ask what they see you as when you are going to be the bride if you are stuck or nervous about choosing. Think ahead of time what you would like the photos to look like for years to come sometimes it is really a matter of taste but a professional opinion can help. I feel its best when the party looks cohesive because when it does not you can tell the one person who maybe opted out for the extra service of hair and makeup. Try to convince them it's best for them or offer to pay for it yourself because you won't want to look back and say "what were they thinking?"

Afternoon Weddings

Weddings in Florida can be a challenging especially outdoors. You have to deal with the possibility of inclement weather and humidity. Luckily Marianna's dream wedding was picture perfect.

Tips for the Bride

Planning a wedding is one of the greatest experiences you will have in your life. Part of this experience is your beauty, hairstyle and makeup needs. How you look on your wedding day is something you will remember forever. Plan your hairstyle and makeup ahead of time and you will look simply radiant. Consider having your hair and makeup done by a professional. Schedule a trial run. Don't make any drastic changes to your hair until after the wedding. Make sure you are comfortable with the person you have hired to be a part of your day. Your makeup should be similar to how you normally wear it "you only better" unless you are going for a specific look that has been agreed upon in the trial. Try false eyelashes for more dramatic eyes. Waterproof mascara and eyeliner is a must! Take along pressed powder for touch ups. This is especially important for your wedding photographs.

Hilton Photo Shoot

The Orlando Hilton is the perfect setting for the bride who wants it all. They offer luxury and glamour in an intimate setting. I had the pleasure of working with the staff who can to accommodate your wedding needs down to the flowers and the hair and make-up. I used the floral color palette as an inspiration for the models make-up. When choosing you headpiece be sure you try it a few different ways to see how you will want to wear your hair. this particular model looked best with the headpiece worn more like a crown. The Art of Hair

"What will I do with my hair?" This maybe one of the first things you ask yourself, if you are like me you knew in advance what you wanted to look like the day you walked down that aisle. Hopefully you can translate this vision to your stylist, friends, mother, mother-in-law and anyone else who will listen. Relax, take a deep breath and prepare yourself for the day with several trips to the salon. Here are a few tips 1. Reflect your dress and personal style. 2. Visualize the wedding day the time, the place, the theme, etc. 3. Scour bridal magazines for looks that draw your eye. 4. Practice! practice! practice! 5. Consider the total look including your make-up and flowers to create symmetry.

Don't forget your bridesmaids

When thinking about your wedding you will want be sure to include the people closest to you in all the festivities. Don't forget to ask them if they would like their hair and make-up done professionally. Many times the girls will not want to impose. If you want a cohesive look for your pictures you may want to convince your attendants that it is worth the time and money because hey you never know who they might meet!. Besides they want to look back at the pictures too and remember how beautiful everyone was. No girl wants to be the one who stood out in a bad way. I really loved doing Katrina's wedding party because her girls were so much fun. The make-up was done by my friend and make-up artist Amanda Nieves because we had such a large wedding party. This picture by Jenn Adam's captures the mood after we finished the hair and makeup right before her ceremony. Katrina had a Small intimate wedding at Paradise Cove.

Flirty

The photographer Damon Tucci used natural lighting in the Westin to capture Tara's flirty Priscilla of Boston dress and stunning high heels. Tara's dress had so much detail that I wanted to keep her hair and make-up simple. Using a large barrel curling iron and a little teasing at the base I pinned the sides up to create soft curls. My absolutely favorite product to use on any bride is Aquage finishing spray .

Intimate weddings

Are you considering choosing a hotel for your wedding? Well take a look at the Westin Hotel in Lake Mary , Florida. Westin is a beautifully modern boutique hotel. With the help of wedding planner Julie Noda at Something Borrowed. I was able to transform Tara into a vision of elegance whose 1940's birdcage veil was the inspiration. I created a modern look on the bride using Loreal's HIP black pot eye liner and matte red lips such as Arbonne's Jam lipsick and retro styled hair using big irons pinning the hair low on the nape. when contacting the Westin Lake Mary be sure to ask for Kim Martinez.

Spring is almost here and so is your wedding!!!!

You have probably been planning for months but spring is almost here. If your wedding in only a few months away be sure and get your hair and make-up appointments in order. Don't wait till the week before to talk to your stylist. Make sure the date is confirmed and deposits have been paid in order to ensure you have one less thing to worry about. Find out how many of your attendants are getting their hair and make-up done too and don't be afraid to add last minute requests. Your stylist should be willing to help you with Anything. I have on many occasion sewn a dress, arranged the flowers and set a table or two.

Beauty Tips for the Bride

Avoid late night partying with the bridesmaids or your groom and his buddies the night before. 1. Try to avoid stress including your favorite relative who makes your blood pressure shoot through the roof so you have to put on that tight fake smile. "Mustn't cause any wrinkles". 2. Drink plenty of water so you don't look green for the camera, that is what alcohol will do. 3. Find the time to eat a small meal. 4. It is best to schedule a consult for you wedding Hair and make-up needs. That way there is plenty of time to change or go over things you do not like. 5. Find a professional who can recommend new fresh updated looks that match your personality. 6. Use TONS of moisturizer the night before so your make-up goes on silky smooth. You will look like you woke up from a great dream that morning. 7. Wash your hair in the morning and blow it dry as usual if you did not already discuss this with your stylist. And remember to smile and relax, this is the best day of y
